Hi! I’m your typical trying to make it through the day mom. I’m married to my husband Brett and we have 2 daughters, Avery (Bliss) and Hayden (Blair). I work full time and have been looking for a way to better capture memories and document life in our family. So I hope you enjoy the ride!

The M’s...
Sorry, I’ve been remiss in posting lately but things have been BUSY! So I will try and catch up on what’s been going on. The biggest thing in the last several weeks was my 40th birthday trip with my childhood group of friends whom are dubbed the “M’s” (since we grew up in Midland together). Let me tell you something about the ladies. They are my “people”. These are the girls who know me probably better than anyone and who I just can’t fathom not having in my life. There’s been so much history in our group that it truly is a sisterhood. Even though we don’t get to see or talk everyday since we live in different cities and are just busy with life, when we get together it just falls into such a comfortable place it’s like not a day has passed. Nothing is off limits to talk about and man these ladies give the best advice (or just an ear to listen if that’s needed). So to celebrate turning 40 we loaded up to head to Scottsdale (or Scotland as we kept jokingly calling it).

Here we are flying out in our “#M’s 4 Life” hats- thanks Jen!!

We had some great dinners out (even though I swear Scottsdale has the RUDEST waitstaff I’ve ever seen. Seriously, at every restaurant we went to. They were just rude.)

We spent some time exploring the sites and made some new friends while out. 😜

And an epic last night full of dancing (details of which remain classified...).

Valentine’s Day
We had a good Valentine’s Day here. I had ordered some “decorate your own cookies” for the girls and they had a great time doing them.

Other than that it was a usual crazy busy day. Avery’s class did a 50’s themed sock hope so she got to dress up in a poodle skirt and I think she looked really cute.
And Hayden got a cute new heart themed dress to wear to school.
We had basketball practice that night and so I dialed it in for dinner and ordered the heart shaped pizzas from Papa John’s. Which we scarfed down before I could get a picture. Hope you all had a nice Valentine’s Day!

Wood working women....
A few weeks ago I got together with my sweet MOPS friends. We all met when we were pregnant and have remained friends to this day. It’s hard to get together that often since we are all over the place with kids, schools, and living all over Dallas. So we decided to do a get together at Texas Wine & Wood. At first I was more in for the wine and just seeing my friends. I am NOT what you would call a crafty girl. And honestly the farmhouse style of decorating isn’t really my personal aesthetic. So in reviewing what they offer I decided to make a cute sign for the girl’s playroom. They really walk you through the process step by step (seriously I’m not good at this stuff and I could still do it). Here are some of our “action shots”.

And my final product. I was proud and thought it turned out really cute!

School Auction
We had our annual school auction this weekend. The theme was “Boardwalk Empire” which if you didn’t watch the show, is set in Atlantic City in the 1920’s. I was pretty pleased with how our costumes turned out. And yes, Brett is wearing half a mask. You have to watch the show to get it!

Anyway, we had a great time and ended up with some good stuff. We got a trip to New Orleans, an overnight in Dallas package which includes babysitting by teachers, and some fun sign and go parties. Besides, it’s all for the kids!!

The crud....
Our house was hit by the flu. Luckily it was only Brett that got it (knock on wood). Poor guy has been banished to the guest bedroom since Saturday. I make him wear a surgical mask when he leaves them room and he has to wash his hands with hibiclens. Crazy?? Perhaps. But so far the flu has been limited to him. I have sprayed Lysol on every surface of my home and wiped everything we own with Clorox. Seriously. This better end here!!!

The Greatest Showman
Have you seen this movie? If not, pack up your kids and take them! It’s seriously great. Even my youngest enjoyed it. The music and choreography are incredible and it’s got a great message about how sometimes you need to stop wanting more and just learn to be satisfied with what you have. This is a conversation I feel like I have with my kids all the time (and usually goes in one ear and out the other) but I’m hoping this helped hammer it home a little. Highly recommend this film!

Happy MLK Day!
Of all the quotes I looked through of his I felt like this one seems the most relatable to our current political climate.

A good reminder....
Just a good reminder that I feel like all moms need. Especially as we are about to start another busy week.

Hope everyone has a good one!

The possum...
About a week ago I started smelling something when I was in our kitchen nook. I could not for the life of me figure out what is was or where it was coming from. And it just got worse and worse. It finally occurred to me that I think something may have died under our house. We have a pier and beam foundation and it’s gotten very cold in Dallas. I thought maybe something got stuck or who knows? Enter the exterminator. Bless this guys heart as he comes and crawls under our house when it’s 30 degrees outside. Brett and I were sitting in the living room while he was under there and you could hear the shuffling and movement. All of a sudden we hear this shout and a muffled, “it’s a live one!” He finally comes back up and confirms that he did indeed find a live possum underneath our house but that wasn’t what the smell was. He thinks perhaps it had babies and one of them didn’t make it. The problem is that the smell is coming from a little section that he can’t get to. So what are our options? 1) live with it until it decomposes completely (which because of the cold could be up to 6 weeks) or 2) spend like $6000 to tear up our floors and go after it that way. Guess which option we chose?

I’ve got about 4 different air purifiers going round the clock, candles, air deodorizers and even put dryer sheets in the vents. And it still smells!!! It’s going to be a long 6 weeks.
They did lay a trap for the live possum and as we came home New Year’s Eve look what was there!
I actually feel kinda bad for the poor thing. I was promised that he wouldn’t be killed but relocated to the lake. So I hope he enjoys his new lake front home more than the crawl space in my house!
